Continuing the saga of lighthouses and fortress, I added a visit to some beaches on this tour.
I decided to make this ride going directly to the end of it, this means, make it direction south – north and in the end of the day it revealed that it was a good decision.
A1 and A17 were the highways that took me to the first point…this way I saved some time for the rest of the day.
As in last week's ride the objective of this one would be lighthouses and fortress and not the roads and landscapes. However, it was a pleasant surprise for me as I've been here so many times by car and I never had this notion of how this area has some really cool roads and landscapes. I emphasize the roads because some were just huge straights, as is the case with the Atlantic route.
When I left home never crossed my mind the beautiful day that it is going to be. I was really lucky, as in many of the planned stops were amazing. The view I had of the landscape was as far as my eyes could see.

If last week I regretted the state of some of the fortress I visited, today I was positively surprised because this one is being rehabilitated. I hope they don't make another aberration like they did recently in the romantic museum in Porto or in the Castelo de Ourém.
The beach on the north side of the fortress is as far as the eye can see and goes till Peniche. Anyone who comes here can't complain that they don't have a place to put their beach towel… there's plenty of space.
The south side of the fort, on the other hand, has cliffs that gives a tremendous view.
Forte de Nossa Senhora dos Anjos de Paimogo

What an amazing spot…my opinion of course.
It is a pity the abandonment of this fortress. It deserves a better destination or use.
Paimogo beach, south of the fort, seems to be quite pleasant. The cliffs at its rear and the sea in front of it gives an incredible view.
Accessing to Paimogo beach, although it does not seems at first view, is friendly with a small road that take us right to the beach.
Cabo do Carvoeiro Lighthouse (Peniche)

With Berlengas as a backdrop I arrive at Cabo Carvoeiro and its superb lighthouse.
The road that drives us to this light house has a lot of spots that should be visited. The scenery is amazing in all of them.
North of the lighthouse is the well-known Baleal beach. It is worldwide known for windsurfers, surfers, more recently, for paddlers and Kitesurf
South of the light house another worldwide well know beach called Supertubes. Also a paradise for surfers.
Never went to Berlengas (World Biosphere Reserve) but one day I’ll do it.
Berlengas is an archipelago located in front of Peniche and it was the first protected area known in Portugal. Running the year of 1465, the king Afonso V forbid the fishing and hunting on this archipelago.
Highlights of this archipelago are the lighthouse Duque de Bragança (https://www.amn.pt/DF/Paginas/FaroldaBerlenga.aspx), the fortress São João Baptista das Berlengas (http://www.monumentos.gov.pt/site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=4062) and Carreiro do Mosteiro beach. Of course the various birds and fish are as well highlights when visiting this spot.
To reach the next point I took some roads that make passing thru Lagoa de Óbidos and Foz Arelho. This time I did not stop in none of them, but after Foz do Arelho I started to drive on Atlantic Road that I might say again is amazing if we do it on our motorcycles.
Never noticed that on this road we pass thru Mancais and Pescaria Sierras. They are not at high high but they are called sierras…
A view of São Martinho do Porto from Facho Road
Drive thru São Martinho do Porto but I was focused to see it from a high point.
Amazing is the correct word to express what I saw. Certainly, this beach, is one of the most beautiful beaches we have in Portugal. Due to the bay, it has calm waters and it should be also good to avoid the typical north winds of the Atlantic.
Unfortunately I do not know what I’ve made but some photos I took were deleted but these two below can give and idea of what can be enjoyed at this picturesque village.
I already spent weekends on this region but never crossed my mind to spent holidays here due to the famous foggy and windy days and, of course, real cold waters.
The accommodation offer is good, and we have a lot for choose. Since the more modest till the luxury offer.
Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo and the famous world wide Nazaré Lighthouse
This was the idea to visit these two … but visited none of them because the road is closed for traffic. The advantage of riding with motorcycle side bags is that we can stop an leave inside the helmet, GPS, cameras, cloth, etc… Once again, I did not took the side bags, only the tail bag, so I could not leave the things on the motorcycle or the option would be carrying with me everything. NO WAY.
Nazaré I’ll visit you proximately …
Could not see where the giant waves are famous worldwide, not only within the surf community but also for those that are not involved on this sport.
But I went to North Beach where at least I could see the amazing view and how big they must be these famous waves taking in mind the height of the lighthouse.
My next Stop planned was Penedo da Saudade lighthouse and to reach it I drove again thru the amazing Atlantic Road.
I know that it has a lot of straights, but the landscape is, at my opinion, really nice.

Never been here and I must say that this light house has extraordinary views, and it is a nice “specimen”.
The cliffs to the south and north of the lighthouse are extraordinary
The view of the lighthouse when we are driving to it is as well very nice.
Although not planned but because I already heard several times talking about Osso da Baleia beach, I took the opportunity, make a small detour, and visited it.
Ok it is nice, but I saw many others during my ride much better.
From what I see this beach has an advantage compared with others, because it has bars, toilets and it is a surveilled beach.
No far from here was my planned destination the Seiça Monastery.
Monastery de Santa Maria de Seiça

Another sad example of how our heritage is allowed to reach total disgrace.
It seems that finally it will be rehabilitated proximately. The Municipality of Figueira da Foz took the responsibility. The intervention will consolidate “the ruined monumental façade of the church, and the rehabilitation of the adjacent monastic building” (Wikipedia).
The ride was almost end and my next stop planned is at Serra da Boa Viagem, where it is the Cabo Mondego lighthouse.

Not only the road to reach there and leave it is amazing but also the lighthouse it self and landscape is extyraodinary.
