What a day and what a ride.
This time was alone…no one joined me. I challenged the group but it seems they were afraid of the weather! I’m joking.
Again the destination was Magic mountains and this time I started thru Arestal and ended on Freita.
As usual, and to win some time, I took A32 to leave it where I catch the EN224. A few km on this road and I changed CM1326 and River Caima started to join me, always at my left side.
At the village of Mó I changed into EN224-3 whre I used till reaching CM1332 at my left (a few dozen meters after Tugilde).
On this road we are faced with a nice spot. The Bridge of Valmadeiros.
This river would join me again later… when riding at Mizarela.
River Caima is born at Serra da Freita nearby the Village of Albergaria da Serra.
Obviously that I made my first stop of the day at Valmadeiros Bridge.
The bridge itself, at my opinion, has no interest but the river passing below has some beauty and every time I pass here I always stop to enjoy some minutes.
Below I share two photos where I try to show how beautiful is this place.
Strongly recommend this place.
For me Autumn is the best time of the year to pass here. The colors are amazing.
Rubber on the tarmac and let’s continue the ride thru CM1332 till Vale de Madeiros do Além where I started to ride on EN16-3 and moving toward to Arestal Mountains.
While riding EN16-3 I pass Telhadela, Vale and Ribeira de Fráguas, where I changed into EM554 and later to EM554-1 that drove me to Carvalhal where I made a stop to fill the tank with gasoline. By the way the consumption of R7 continues to amaze me. This time was 3.69 l/100km and my right wrist was not on turtle mode…by the contrary.
A parentheses to share that this region, where the Eucalyptus are abundant, is not the kind of landscape that I like…but even so I was enjoying each cm of my ride.
At Carvalhal I took EN328, that is a nice road for us motorcyclists. Ride on it till Pessegueiro do Vouga where before reaching the bridge over River Vouga I turned left to EM569.
Vouga is always joining us but it is difficult to see it due to the trees…but is there!
This EM569 is a nice road to drive with a lot of curves on ascendent mode.
Meanwhile I started to ride more to northwest and got EM569-1 till Souto Chão. Here I changed into EN328-1, pass Rocas do Vouga and Sanfins.
Arrived at Sanfins I changed to EM552. What a terrible road for my R7 and for me as well. But as I use to say…we must be strong! That’s what I’ve done, because I continued to ride on it (it was planned so I must follow the plan).
The road was so bad that I decide to make a stop when I saw in front of me that the road is going to change for a proper tarmac.
More I take photos of my R7 more I like it.
Obviously that I cannot compare the comfort of my R7 with my T7 … and of course with my ST. But if the roads are good, I do not mind to ride R7.
When I left this “road of the hell” I move toward to Junqueira to get EN227 … that is a nice road, but toady was not for running it but to go in direction of Arões, thru CM1385, Ervedoso and Paraduça, thru CM1386.
Before get Paraduça I made my second planed stop at waterfall Poço do Linho.
This waterfall is one of many others that makes part of the “Rota da Água e da Pedra” (Water and Stone Route)
Below I share some photos taken there
Although I tried to understand, not today but in the past, the name of the river or brook, I still do not know the name … Need Help.
Now I was riding on Serra da Freita and left behind Serra do Arestal when I left, more or less, Junqueira.
I think that I shared once but … Arestal, Freita, Arada and Montemuro belongs to the mountain complex of Gralheira, and this is what is called the Magic Mountains.
After some minutes enjoying the spot again the rubber on the tarmac where I continued riding thru CM1386, pass Paraduça and Cabrum.
EM550 and EM621 were my next roads (never get tired to ride them) and my next, not planned stop, was before reaching Cabaços.
Did not turned left …
I might say that on this area we have a lot of roads to ride with magnificent landscapes.
The planned road was in direction of Albergaria da Serra and Merujal, so start the engine and move on forward…
Before reaching Mizarela I had a planned stop at the bridge that crosses Rio Caima. Here it is again Rio Caima again, but now, as I said in the beginning nearby where it born.
Strongly recommend this spot.
On the photo below we can see the river going in direction of the big waterfall named Mizarela.
This waterfall is considered the highest in Continental Portugal with its 75 meters of fall.
My ride was in the middle. I still have ahead of me beautiful roads and landscapes.
When I reached Provisende de Baixo I turned right and catch EM511-2, pass Póvoa da Reguenga, Souto Redondo, Lourosa de Matos, Fráguas and Nogueiró.
At Nogueiró I had to get for a few meters EN224 and took at my left a road (planed road by the way) but with no name and/or number. The only thing I can share is the name of the villages that I passed. They were Amilo and Casal Mau…where at the end of this road I catch again the lovely EN224 that took me till just before Fundões.
Meanwhile I stop again (not planned) to enjoy the spot where I could see the Barragem (Dam) do Seixo.
Honestly I thought that it was better than it is…too much eucalyptus around…AGAIN!
It was getting late, so I decided to avoid more unplanned stops.
Continued driving thru CM1137, EM502-2 and reached Castelo de Paiva. Took the famous EN222, passed Moimenta de Baixo, Escamarão, Vila Pouca- Souselo, Fontela, Souselo, Espadanedo…etc… and Aveleda. What a nice road i tis this EN222.
Now my planned route was pass thru barrage (Dam) do Carrapatelo.
I had planned not to stop (only at Romanesque bridge of Vilela) but I was getting hungry and I saw a nice bar nearby the Dam.
The area surrounding the bar is amazing
They were 15h00m and I had to reach home maximum 18h00m and still had to pass by Motocar !
Crossed river Douro, went thru EM642 at Paços do Gaiolo change later ahead to EN211-2, EM1257.
I told to myself that I would not stop but at Juncal (EM1257) I did not resist to capture the train station.
This one is still preserved because still is in service. Unfortunately we have dozens of them thru out Portugal in complete ruins.
Again on the road I continued towards to Ramalhais where I change to EN211, crossed River Tâmega, and continued driving thru EN211.
My next planned stop was not far. To get there I took EN320-1and EM605 where after the village of Vilela I had the Romanesque bridge of Vilela.
The end of the ride was at Motocar.
