Freita, Arada and tangentially Montemuro 4 Zés a Lés (Ricardo Romano, Paulo Faia, Hélder Martins and myself) decided to invade and conquer these mountains with a fleet of Yamaha Super Ténérés 1200…all blue because they are the best.

To win this hard challenge Paulo Faia and Ricardo Romano brought with them and for the battalion more than enough supplies to permit us face the day smoothly. On behalf of Hélder Martins I wish to thank the wonderful Jesuítas, Rissóis, Croquetes, Panados, etc… that tasted so well all thru the day. Hélder and Myself, as we say in Portuguese, “andamos à gola”.

Of course that I cannot forget Diana Raposo who, carefully, prepared these Rissóis, Croquetes, Panados, etc…Thank you Diana they were great and without them we would not achieve our goal to conquer these difficult mountains.

The first conquest was Freixa da Mizarela, crowded with aliens. Was not easy but we managed to kick them out quite easily. This conquest was important because this waterfall, feeded by River Caima, has water falling from a height of 75 meters and is one of the highest in Portugal. This wonder nature could not fall in the hands of aliens.

Of course that we must emphasize the brilliant behavior our 4 St’s that fought as well the climb without any problems…so we put them to rest for few moments.

Next defeats were Pedras Parideiras and Meteorological Radar of Arouca. These two strategic points were also easily conquered but with some injuries on one of my video action cameras that during the battle, on off road mode and when we were towards to Meteorological Radar, felt and broke the protection box…but even so, continued to work.

Why Pedras Parideiras were so important that we had to conquer them? Easy they are a unique phenomenon in the world (at least as far as I know) where stones that are born from other stones, which consequently are called birthing stones. This occurrence is a combination of geological, geographical and climatic factors. For those interested on this exquisite phenomenon can have a proper explanation at http://jardimgeologico.blogspot.com/2015/05/o-que-sao-pedras-parideiras.html

A dangerous alien running from us can be seen on the photo below

Conquered these two points it was time to went thru the small and beautiful village of Albergaria da Serra. No photos but the conquest moment was registered in video. (https://youtu.be/55mgwT3Gc7A)

A narrowed town with some 90 degrees turns, slippery granit and a lots of cow poop where also a small challenge, but with the excellent performance of our St’s we managed to kick out all the aliens and put the population of this village safe.

Went thru Panorâmica do Destrelo da Malhada where Paulo Faia made an incursion with its ST till the viewpoint but due to the dense fog we decided not to go there, so we continued towards to route EM326 and passed over Cando, Bustelo and Moldes. A few km after we took the road EM510, passed Portela, Fundo de Vila, Cela de Moldes, Celadinha and Ponte de Telhe. Our next objective was almost there.

Meanwhile I must share that even with these hard battles we had we had time to enjoy the absolutely amazing roads and landscapes we passed thru. Now that the terrain is secure, we strongly recommend the visit to these beautiful roads and small villages.

As I were saying our next conquest was Rio de Frades and its mines, now deactivated. Also here we had no time to take photos but on the video it is registered the moment of the conquest (from minute 1.25 till 1.35).

Tin and Tungsten where the materials mined here. They were, unfortunately, important during the second world war because all the extraction was exported to Germany to be used on the production of war material. More explanation can be found at http://aroucageopark.pt/en/know/geodiversity/geosites/rio-de-frades-mines/

Not tired but already with needs to be fed, the warriors stopped on the bridge over Rio de Frades just before reaching Covelo de Paivó. What a delicious lunch…it felt really good to regain strength for what we still had ahead of us.

Stomach full, motorbikes working, we went through Covelo de Paivó towards the EM567 and CM1256 which took us to Montanha Bar. Here we refreshed ourselves with some drinks and Expressos. Of course. What was missing were Espressos.

Here we saw some warriors that were climbing the mountain ahead of us. Their intention was conquering the abandoned small village of Drave. Because we assume that they don’t need hour support, we decided not to go with our ST’s to Drave. They looked so determined …

While returning to catch CM1256 and after EM567 we passed by The Mining complex of Regoufe

For those who are interest to know what these deactivated mines were, I share the link below http://aroucageopark.pt/en/know/geodiversity/geosites/regoufe-mines/

No need to combat because they were no aliens, we followed to Portal do Inferno e Garra. No aliens but 3 Nuestros Hermanos from Corunha…Huuum what they were doing there we do not know, but as soon as we arrived, they left. They were mounted on two toys and one Yamaha Trace. I’m obviously joking but I chat a little bit with them and they were amazed with their ride and what they have seen so far on these mountains.

This spot is beautiful, quiet and dramatic spot is a must when we ride over the Gralheira Massif. We just have to “conquer” it. Period.

Again I share a link for those interested to know a little bit more about this impressive “portal” http://aroucageopark.pt/en/know/geodiversity/geosites/hell-portal-and-claw/

We were already conquering lands, spots and small villages for more than 5 hours but we were ok, ours ST’S were obviously doing ok as well, so we continued on our mission thru CM1123, now driving thru Arada mountain and thru the beautiful road CM1123 and EN326.

At this last road we stopped at “Baloiço da Serra da Arada” to enjoy the view, discuss our strategy and mark our presence.

Manhouce was the next destination that we went thru beautiful roads and villages (Coelheira, Póvoa das Leiras, Candal and Salgueiro). No Aliens but we found out that we need gas to Romano’s ST, so we decided to went to São João da Serra where we as well took Expressos and drink something to refresh ourselves. To reach this village we passed by Sequeiro, Sernadinha and Covelinho. This road is amazing. I strongly recommend it.

After filled with gas and took the refreshments we drove again back thru the same roads and continued our project path thru CM1321 indirection of the birth of River Teixeira. Also another amazing road with a beautiful landscape where I emphasize de picturesque village of Vilarinho. It is a must go there this village. I strongly recommended the visit. (on the video starts at 4.25 and end at 4.41 minutes)

Almost ending the conquests, it was time to went to Santa Cruz da Trapa, Poço Azul (so crowded with Portuguese warriors that we decided not to stop) and reach the amazing road EN227. Not because of the landscape but because of the constant curves to lean our ST’S.

Time to stop at Poços Fluviais of River Teixeira that makes part of the “Rota da Água e da Pedra” (http://rota-ap.pt/rota), “swallow” the reminiscent food, rest and chat a little bit while smoking a cigarette.

All conquered we drove to Praia Fluvial de Burgães to take our last drinks and chat about what we’ve done during the day.

The Super Ténéré fleet is ENOURMOUS…
